Soaring On High takes you on a flight of exhilaration and wonder with Australia’s largest bird of prey. But what might be a feeling of upliftment for us is a means of prey for the majestic wedge-tail. Sailing over the countryside on upswept wings, with it’s distinctive diamond shaped tail. The sun’s aura lights the tips of it’s feathers, the grassy hills in the background and the clouds in the sky.

Philip portrays the eagle’s flight as plain sailing, yet with so little reference of an eagle in flight available, the drawing of the image was laboured and difficult. The painting still had to be correct, to the number of primary feathers, the posture of the bird and the position of the feet in flight.
